BATH:-

Bath is the act of cleaning the body. Taking a bath is a common daily ritual for personal hygiene and relaxation. Bathing is a fundamental part of daily life for maintaining cleanliness, relaxation, and well-being. The specific practices and rituals associated with bathing can vary widely among individuals and cultures.

TYPES OF CLEANSING BATH:-

•Bed bath

•Therapeutic bath

•Partial bath

•Self administered bath

•Tub bath

BED BATH:-

It means bathing a patient who is confined to bed and cannot have the physical and mental capability of self-bathing. A “bed bath” is a method of cleaning and refreshing a person who is bedridden and unable to bathe themselves independently. Bed baths are commonly performed in healthcare settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and home healthcare, to maintain hygiene and comfort for individuals who cannot access a regular bath or shower.

PURPOSE OF BATHING:-

•Cleanse the skin

•Stimulate blood circulation

•Regulate body temperature

•Reduce body odors

•Promote range of motion exercises

TYPES OF PATIENT NEED BED BATH:-

•Unconscious and semiconscious patient.

•Postoperative patient

•Patient with strict bed rest

•Orthopedic patient with plaster cast.

•Seriously ill patient

PREPARATION OF PATIENT AND ENVIRONMENT:-

1.Close the doors and windows

2.Put off the fan

3.Arrange the articles at bedside

4.Maintain the room temperature

5.Adjust the height of the patient’s bed

6.Provide privacy by means of curtains

7.Offer bed pan or urinals if necessary

8.Remove the personal clothing and cover the patient with the bath blanket.

PROCEDURE:-

A. Explain the procedure

B.Remove the patients dress, cover with bath sheet while removing the top sheet and dress.

C.Mix hot and cold water in basin and check the temperature

D. Spread face towel around the neck

E. Wet sponge towel and form mitten around the fingers

F. Cleanse the body

CLEAN BODY IN FOLLOWING ORDER:-

I.FACE

II.ARMS

III.CHEST

IV.ABDOMEN

V.BACK

VI.LEGS

VII.PUBIC REGION

PRECAUTIONS:-

i. Do not give bath immediately after lunch

ii. The temperature of the water should not be extreme

iii. Use soap which contain less alkali to avoid dryness of skin

iv. Cleanse the soap completely to avoid drying affect pf the skin

v. Do not touch the body with wet hands

vi. The nurse should maintain good posture and balance of the body.

AFTER CARE:-

•Provide clean gown and paijama.

•Replace articles after cleaning.

•Discard dirty water

•Clean the bed linen

•Offer a hot drink

•Position the patient for comfortable and proper alignment

•Cut short the nails

•Comb the hair

•Wash your hands

•Record the procedure in the nurse’s record with time, date, type and abnormalities noticed.
